Can my child play on another baseball team in addition to their Eastern Little League Team?

Eastern Little League strictly prohibits participation on another baseball team during the regular season and if the player is selected for inclusion on an Eastern all-star or select team then this prohibition shall extend through the conclusion of tournament play by the all-star and/or select team.

How are teams selected?

Major division: Teams are selected by try outs and a draft selection. No player may request assignment to or selection by a particular team. A returning major division player will be assigned to the same team as last year.

Minor Division: Teams are selected by try outs and a draft selection. Any players not selected by a major division team will then be a part of the minor league draft. No player may request assignment to or selection by a particular team. Siblings within the division will be assigned to the same team, unless otherwise requested.

Rookie division: All players will be assigned to teams on a random basis, with the view of equalizing the number of 7 and 8 year olds on each team. Team requests can be made, but no commitment is made that those requests will be honored. Siblings within the division will be assigned to the same team.

T Ball division: All players will be assigned to teams on a random basis, with the view of equalizing the number of 5 and 6 year olds on each team. Team requests can be made, but no commitment is made that those requests will be honored. Siblings within the division will be assigned to the same team.

Are tryouts mandatory?

ALL candidates for the major/minor division MUST try out. 9 year olds may request to be assigned to a minor division team, but still must attend tryouts.

When are tryouts for this year and where will they be held?

Please refer to the Registration page for information about tryouts.

I can't make the scheduled tryout date. Is there a makeup day?

Typically there are 2 weekends for tryouts (see Tryout dates/times by clicking here). Although we encourage the players to attend the tryout specifically for their age group, you may attend at a different time. Please contact the Player Agent if your son/daughter can not attend the age designated tryout date/time.

Can I request that my child play Minor League Only?

Players ages 9 to 11 can request to play Minor League Only. Player age 12 can request to play Minor League Only with approval from the Board of Directors.

Are there conduct rules that apply during games?

Eastern Little League does not tolerate foul language or taunting at any level by the players, parents, managers, or coaches. Any spectator, player, manager or coach that is warned is subject to being ejected from the premises and banned from the complex for additional games.

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Division of Parks and Recreation has a “Physical and Verbal Altercation Policy" that Eastern Little League must follow. It is your responsibility as a participant, spectator, or leader to familiarize yourself the "Physical and Verbal Altercation Policy". You may view the policy here.

All injuries should be reported to the coach who will then report it to the board.

When do the League tournaments begin? When are the Championships played?

League tournaments for all divisions will be played the week after the season ends, with Championship Saturday and League Picnic at Ecton Park following.

When do the All Stars teams and tournaments begin?

Sanctioned Little League Tournaments for 9-10s, 10-11s, and 11-12s are scheduled to start the weekend following the Eastern Championship weekend. Currently Sanctioned Little League Tournaments are available for the Major League division only. Inevitably travel teams from some of the other divisions are formed outside the scope of Eastern Little League.

How are the Major League all-star players selected?

The local rules state all-star players are voted upon by the coaches and ELL board members.

Are there All Star teams for the Rookie and T Ball divisions?

Little League Baseball, Inc. does not have sanctioned all star tournaments for these age groups, but league parents invariably organize teams and play tournaments locally or around Central Kentucky.

What are the age cutoffs for Eastern Little League?

Can my son/daughter play up a division? Can I hold my son/daughter back a division?

A player may be allowed to play in a different age group with Board approval. The Board will take into consideration the safety of this player and other players in this request. The Board will also take into consideration the amount of potential spaces in the Leagues.

How much time should I anticipate my player devoting to baseball each week?

The number of practices can vary depending on coaches and division; typically each team will play 2 games each week and practice 1-2 times per week. Major division teams may practice more.

Is it permissable for my player to participate in other sports while playing baseball at Eastern?

While participation in other sports or activities is not prohibited or even discouraged by Little League, parents should understand that Little League baseball does entail a time commitment. For example, our experience is that it is very difficult to play on both a major division team and select soccer.

Does Eastern Little League waive or reduce fees? Can I pay installments?

Fees may be reduced or waived, or paid in installments. Fee reduction or waiver requests should be addressed to the League President or Player Agent.

What supplies or equipment do you suggest my son or daughter needs to play baseball?

It is mandatory that all players should have a baseball glove, baseball shoes (rubber cleats), and a protective cup. Many players prefer to use their own baseball bat and helmet, although the individual teams have extras available that the players may also use. Many players also like to have an equipment bag to carry their belongings, but this is not required. For all divisions but Minors and Majors players will need to purchase their own baseball pants, socks and belt, which are typically color-coordinated with the team jersey color. The league will provide the jersey and hat for all players. The league highly recommends the use of a heart guard. Also parents may see the benefit of utilizing a mouth guard piece.

What are the boundaries for Eastern Little League?

Fayette County between Nicholasville Road (east side) and Paris Pike(south side). While we have permitted players residing outside our boundaries to sign up and participate in ELL, non-residence may prohibit (or at least complicate) participation in sanctioned Little League tournaments. Further questions should be directed to the League President.

If we have a concern, question or request during the season, what is the best way to handle it and to whom should we speak?

We encourage you to first thoughtfully speak with the people or parties involved if you have a problem or concern. The player agent may also be contacted. Questions and suggestions may be addressed to the manager, coach, player agent, president or any board members. Please refer to the Contact Us page for needed contact info.

Do I have to participate in any fundraising?

Eastern relies on fundraising to help support the operations of the league. Player registration fees only account for a portion of the needed operating capital required for equipment, facilities maintenance and repairs, uniforms, etc. Eastern Little League supplements player registration fees with league sponsors and fundraising. Each team is expected to participate in the league's annual fundraising activities.
